Four-poster(?) or stone row(?) in Fife. Circle diameter: 100 by 30 feet, Number of stones: 3
On the fairway of a Golf Club, three tall stones stand in a large rectangle arrangement. The NNE stone is missing. The NNW stone is 17 feet tall, the SSW 15 feet, the SSE 14 feet tall, but 7 feet broad. Thom calculated two possible alignments: one SSW to Comrie Hill and minor S moonset, the other SSE to the minor S moonrise behind Bass Rock.
Graham writes: As you drive into Lundin Links in Fife you can catch a glimpse of these tall pillars from the road between houses on the edge of the golf course. They are on the Ladies Golf Course and further down the road is the entrance where you can ask permission to visit the site.Three tall sandstone pillars remain of the original four in the middle of the golfcourse
Nick writes: Take the A915 east from Leven until you enter Lundin Links. A left turn into Woodielea Road takes you to the golf course. Park there and ask permission to view the stones (readily granted). They lie on the third fairway, about 600 metres in. These three pillars of coarse red sandstone are 3 corners of a rectangle roughly 30m by 10m.
The NNE stone is missing, although it lay by its stump in 1792, broken by treasure hunters. The NNW stone is 5.1m tall, the SSW 4.6m and the SSE is 4.2m by 2m broad. An eighteenth century excavation found cists, bones, and possibly a jet button (now lost). These stones appear to be an exaggerated form of four-poster, normally more common in Perthshire.

Lundin Links submitted by hamish The classic view, there is a painting like this which the golfers play for each year. I had to wait for them to play through before I could get this one.
Lundin Links submitted by hamish The right hand stone seems to fit the middle one.
Lundin Links submitted by hamish I always visit here when I come home to Fife.
Lundin Links submitted by hamish The single stone of the three. These stones started me off. If you are in the area have a look. This photo was taken in the early 1950s.
Lundin Links submitted by hamish This picture was taken many years ago in the 1950s.The fence is long gone, the bends in the fence were made by golfers for ball retrieval.
I'm going home for a week at the end of May so a visit is a must.
