A Pair of Standing Stones in Perthshire, possibly the remains of a Four Poster Stone Circle.

These stones stand beside a farm building, acting like gateposts for a field entrance. No significant markings on either of them. The farm road to Dunmay branches east from the A93 a couple of miles south of Spittal of Glenshee, crossing a small bridge. Cars with dodgy suspensions should avoid this road like the plague, as it's suitable only for tractors or 4X4's only! The road bends to the right about 200m in, and park here at the wide space to ensure farm vehicles are not impeded. The stones are up on a low mound, above what appears to have been an old kiln. The farmer has no problem with people viewing them.

I followed Nick's advice and walked to the farm. Park by the track gate but expect some interest this is a fishing river,"poachers". The farmer is a bit amused at any interest in "auld stanes" so be prepared to be patronised.

RCAHMS classify this as a pair of standing stones but an earlier report suggests it may be the remains of a stone circle with one of the stones being re-used as the lintel for the nearby lime kiln. Strangely the most recent RCAHMS Report makes no mention of the third standing stone at the other side of the small plateau. As Klingon notes there are also other stones similar in shape and size. Very strange!
