Ruined stone circle in Perthshire, there's only one stone there now, although there used to be a circle.
In an article in the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries Scotland in 1908, FR Coles wrote:
"The circle at Blelock (since renamed Pitsundry) consisted of a central upright monolith, at one time surrounded by a circle of erect stones, probably twelve in number, 40ft in diameter. The farmer had removed several of the circle of stones: some were buried near their former positions."
when the OS visited it in 1969, they wrote:
"A single stone, 1.6m high and having several cup marks on its SE face, stands at NO 0561 3444. There are no indications of a stone circle and the farmer has not encountered any large stones while ploughing."
Leave the A9 at Bankfoot, and turn east into the Tullybelton road. Follow this past the turning to Pitsundry farm, and you will see the stone up on the rise to your left. There is an area to park beside the gate into the field. Walk up the side of the field by the fence to reach the stone. One eroded cup mark is evident on the lower left area of the stone on its eastern face

Pitsundry submitted by hamish This is the north face of the stone. This stone is also known as St Bride's Stone, some where in the area is a St Bride's Well.

Directions:
Come off the A9 at Bankfoot, onto the B867. Take the third road to the left, then on that road, take the third left again. Follow the road round out of Bankfoot. Pitsundry is the first farm on the left (about half a mile out of Bankfoot). Looking up the farm's drive from the road, the standing stone is about 100m to the right of the farm, at the field's edge. | [ Reply to This ]
