Devon, like the rest of the West Country, is blessed with a plethora of sites for the Megalith hunter. The moorland plateaus of Dartmoor provide one of the richest areas of prehistoric remains in Britain. Evidence of early human habitation dates from Mesolithic Era (10,000 BC - 4,500 BC).
Megalithic tomb with internal chambers, usually for multiple burials. Varieties include passage graves, gallery graves, portal dolmens. (see our other more specific site types)
