Ten thousand years ago, most of the islands and rocks of Scilly formed a single land mass, well wooded and uninhabited. Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers do not appear to have come to Scilly and the evidence for the Mesolithic is scarce. The temporary homes of these people (8000-4000BC) would leave little trace, but there are finds of microliths used as tiny points or barbs on arrows.
