It's only just really hit me (24hrs later) the wanton vandalism of this 300 year old tree. I'm one of the lucky ones, as I visited it this year for the first time, little did I know that it wouldn't be standing just 3 months later. A sad state of affairs when someone for unknown but selfish reasons decides to destroy others peoples happiness. I see a lot of videos lately of people either climbing on statues (and breaking them), graffitiing on the Colosseum or even people climbing on top of our own ancient sites (like dolmens etc). It's a self centered outlook nowadays, that peer pressure and the media seem to reinforce, 'its all about ME'.
Sorry, sorry and yes I know, I'm a bit of a Victor Meldrew, but this has made my blood boil (again).

Agree with all you said Horatio. Very sad. Thanks for brilliant photos. Victoria Meldrew. :-)

I was fortunate to visit this site almost a year ago on a walk along the Wall. It was a euphoric experience then, but now very depressing.
