Description
Adena Culture conical burial mounds from 500 BC to 200 AD near Lexington, Kentucky
Don Sniegowski writes: I've seen a number of mounds before but this Adena mound near Lexington, Kentucky is somewhat unusual in that it has circular motes around the raised earthworks.
c 500 B.C. - 200 A.D., Woodland Period, Adena Culture
In the Woodland Period and the Adena Culture, cemeteries (these mounds) were set apart from the community settlements. In other words, people did not bury their dead near where they lived.
