The church was founded by the Welsh Saint Paul Aurelian in 490.
Paul had left Wales when King Mark of Cornwall asked him to teach the people of Cornwall about Christ. From Cornwall he travelled to Brittany where he became Bishop of Leon.
The present church dates from 1600, being rebuilt after a Spanish attack.

The southwest face bears the figure of Christ.
