Description
Asseria Hillfort
Iron Age Hillfort near Zadar Croatia. Later taken over by Romans, but abandoned in 6th Century during Slav invasions.
The fortifications were made of large limestone blocks by native Liburnian Illyrian natives already inspired by Greeks.
You have to drive through partially war devastated villages to get there, but roads are pretty good.
