Description
The head of Zeus, accompanied by an eagle and lion.
The statue of Zeus on the East Terrace is the largest of the statues of the gods, and was made from 31 separate pieces of stone.
The head had already fallen from its body when the site was discovered - only the statue of Kommangene had her head in place when Nemrut was discovered in 1882 (but even that fell in the early 1960s as a result of a lightning strike.)
