Is this Adrian Edmondson and Jennifer Saunders stone circle ?

I'm pretty sure that the two of them live on the edge of Dartmoor near Chagford, and I believe I heard somewhere that they had themselves a stone circle built in their garden some time ago.

Well, looking at the Kestor settlement on Google maps tonight, and I spotted this clear stone circle (13 stones plus outlier) just to the northeast of KesTor, southeast of the main huts, in the garden side of the edge of the moor, along with a couple of real hut circles and reaves.

I dont think we should make a sitepage for it, as it is clearly their private circle, and I am sure they dont want people trudging through to get a look at it.

Maybe I should try contact him and ask!

Very nice find indeed Martyn, it looks so neat and tidy.

Do you know what the two large polygonal areas are roughly NW and SE of the circle? They look as though they possibly contain different planting.
There's also something circular with maybe an integral cross where two hedges meet at right-angles. It's a long way from the house to be a septic tank, if they have their own circle, perhaps they have their own medicine wheel as well. Or perhaps it looks nothing like that in reality.

This is great, Britarch were recently talking about sites found on Google Maps and where people discuss them.
Have you tried the Bing aerial view as this may be better.

Someone's put it on Panoramio (taken from the moor by the look of it) so I think we're entitled to mention it

If I could drive, I'd have been down there this weekend, but that is still quite some time away

Have to say that meeting Ade Edmondson, who has been a favourite of mine for 30 odd years, would be a great thrill for me too ! So perhaps I should go and have a proper look !

Answers to other questions.

No idea what the polygonal areas are - probably different planting as said.

The small circle to the east, at the intersection of hedges is a bronze age round house, with its associated reaves (field walls) adjoining it. It has clearly been "excavated" or cleared out in recent years.

Bing map is much older and less clear. It has the stone circle, but not the polygonal objects, nor the cleared roundhouse.

Must get to see The Bad Shepherds sometime.

(I edited my previous remark after hearing what my friend had to say.)

These aerial google views, etc., are great but it's a shame about the intrusion into peoples' private property. There isn't any right of access to their land and they no doubt chose the area to be assured of privacy to enjoy their lives away from the spotlight.
Anyway...

Did think Ade was wonderful in his version of The Dying Swan in last night's Dancing for Comic Relief final!!
Surprisingly graceful [!] and hilarious at the same time: the combination of his dead-pan expression (mostly open-mouthed), with the glasses, bald head and tutu....
Rik Mayall added a good twist at the end, too.
Thinking about it .. all these people have homes in Devon.

Was up there this morning, and you don't have to trespass anywhere to see this circle.

I have several photos taken looking over the wall that separates the open moor with the field where the circle stands.
The hexagonal thingy is a plantation of trees.

The stones are great and the view from there down over the valley is superb.

Well done the Edmonsons!

As it's viewable from the moor I think it's acceptable to add a site page for it. What's the grid ref or long/lat?

Hi there

That's just what I was going to say. [SX 667 865.]
I'd worked it out as a 'guesstimate', and was just going to take another look at The Captain's link before confirming!
Sorry I hadn't got around to replying before, but have been busy.
