Great shot of their alignment. From memory, would I be right in guessing this is a SE to NW view? (I seem to remember that road going directly south from Penrith.) Like your Long Meg compilation too. Thanks.

Why is this filed under Castlerigg? It's miles from there! (See top of page). Thanks 'A.S.', I remember now, being surprised to find that busy road being so close, and spoiling the atmosphere of Mayburgh, especially from the top of the bank. (Not so bad inside, as it's out of sight). I wonder if there's some kind of Winter Solstice sunrise / Summer Solstice Sunset purpose to their alignment?

Have moved it into Cumbria to join the other KART pictures. This shows the henge very nicely; I visited here in 1999 before I knew a little more about henges and thought it terribly disappointing; this picture makes me reconsider that opinion!

Thanks to you all, the low sunlight helps the earthworks stand out and make more sense. Interesting that the remains of KART are much more subtle than that of the more rugged, river cobble construction of Mayburgh. Perhaps more of KART can be found in the construction of the road and nearby buildings. I will have a look into this.

great photo A.S, i tried & failed to get a decent panoramic of this site. How come everybody else seems to get cow free henges & I always get the buggers spoiling my shots :-)

Ha! ha! - I know what you mean, Rich. Arbor Low and Stanton Drew are two sites that spring to mind! Saves using a mower I suppose?

Nice picture. I love Mayburgh Henge and i can totally understand why you feel a busy main road next door spoils the atmosphere, though when i was last there i got a bit light-headed when i got close up to the central standing stone! have also been to Castlerigg though nothing bizarre went on there! Love the cow comment - how very true?!
