This appears to be the causeway entrance. The surrounding ditch is heavily silted-up.

I have visited many ancient sites, home and abroad, and this is right up there. Atmospheric and mysterious, the kind of place to sit and reflect. So interesting, with so much atmosphere, it poses more questions than answers. For those who like to wonder this is an essential visit. The approach up to the castle from Bicknoll Farm is steep and sticky, but you can park quite close, and the climb will give you a healthy respect for its previous defenders! There are approaches on level ground, nice walks. The fields on level ground to the south would have been almost impossible for an assault, as the ground is boggy clay; defenders would have had a field day raining missiles on those foolhardy enough to try.
