Description
Hemmelmark II (Sprockhoff 81): View along a short part of the southern long-side showing the tops of some largely buried kerb-stones beside the modern mausoleums wall.
Regarding the megaliths Hemmelmark II is a nearly complete, but partly extremely overgrown chambered-longbarrow measuring 44m by 7m. At least 66 (possibly all) enclosure stones were preserved when Sprockhoff and Schwieger examined the site [1]. Unfortunately the earthwork is eroded and (partly) covered many of them. Due to this and the undergrowth I could not find all of them during visit in December 2010. The chamber is just to the SW of the Mausoleums' entrance, but hardly visible/accessible in dense bushes/brambles. Only the capstone once was split in two halves (now repaired) otherwise the chamber is perfectly preserved except for the orthostat of the SE end. As it was not detectable during Sprockhoff's examination it is either covered or robbed.
