Winter solsticial sunrise at Bullstones , 2010 December 21, photographed by Doug Pickford. The centre stone is at bottom of picture. If, as previously suggested, the monument dates to 1500-2000BC, the sunrise would have been about two solar diameters rightwards of the present alignment owing to the changing obliquity of the ecliptic.
