I kept thinking of Bruce Chatwin's 'On the Black Hill' while exploring here. It was a brilliant book, but set on the Welsh borders, not Dartmoor. He'd have loved this place, though.

Yes I remember the film version of 'On the Black Hill'. I think a little church in The Golden Valley was featured in it - was it called Bacton. Crickhowell was shown in the film too.
