Description
Trench opening a part of a flat ploughed Tumulus near Mont Lassois in Vix.

Photo from August 2009
The french geologist dug at the bank of the Seine, in order to find out how the river basin changed the last 2500 years.
Uncovering the upper layer of the area he found this ditch around the tumulus (visible as darker soil in the picture). Unfortunately he was not allowed to extend his trench further to the center of the tumulus, where the burial could have been situated.

At least we unearthed a fibula and an antler-axe. I did not see them as I was at another trench at this time so I don't know anything about how they date exactly, most probably late Laténe as the other Tumuli.

I will soon find out if the trench will be extended this season, maybe I will be able to post some updates after the dig :)

Tumulus is situated about 400 meters south of mont lassois.
