I thought that it was black and white film using a red filter.

Nowadays I mostly use colour negative film which I scan and process in the computer. It's less poisonous and practically anything can be done regarding filtering etc.

But you can't beat the magic of the red light and the image forming as you gently rock the developer tray in the dark room. Ah nostalgia!
