Description
Since Vicky's contribution, Shaw cairn on Mellor Moor has been excavated by the Mellor Archaeological Trust in 2008. Details can be found on their website. This is now considered one of the most important late Neolithic/early Bronze age burial sites in Greater Manchester.

According to the Mellor Heritage Project update 2008, Shaw cairn is a flat ring barrow. Finds include 500 flints and more than a dozen cremation burials, some within stone cists. Some flints date to 10,00BC.
