This stone is located on the farm I grew up on. I remember people visiting it from all over the country. In particular I remember two geologists visiting and taking photographs but also a small sample of stone. They returned a few weeks later telling us that the closest area where the type of sandstone that this particular stone is made from comes from the perthshire area. It has always made me wonder why the people who erected this stone went to perth to get it when there is a readily available supply of sandstone at the coast near east wemyss which is only a few miles away.
