Harters Hill pile toolmarks - Well preserved toolmarks made by a bronze axe, forming a point on an oak pile from a ritual wooden structure at Harters Hill. The pile is from a tree felled in 1076 BC. As the site dries out the toolmarks will distort and the sapwood, that allows such a precise dating by dendrochronology, will decay. Photo copyright Somerset County Council.
