Easier for people not to bother sourcing their own stone to build their marker cairns and to just take it from an existing one. I'm not sure many of them even know these are (mostly) burial sites. Once the centre of the cairn has been trashed most of what was in it is lost. Maybe one for the hill walking and camping fraternity to flag up?
