The Stone Serpent Effigy Mound south of Catlettsburg, Kentucky. It was found and first mapped in the 1960s and sent to the National Register in 1974. It is 625 feet long and comprised of sandstone rocks and earth. It wasn't until the 1990s that archaeologists did extensive investigations of it and fully accepted it as an ancient Native American structure.  Photo: Wiki commons, public domain.
