Description
National Park Service illustration of the Shiloh, Tennessee mound complex. (Yes, it is located in the Civil War battlefield park.) The illustration shows several of the platform mounds, several of which were covered in a bright red clay. People are gathered in the central plaza area and a game is taking place. There are 8 mounds and a couple dozen smaller house mounds there and the site was enclosed by a palisade wall. It was inhabited from 1000 AD to 1300.
