St Fillan’s Well is a small pool of water in St Fillan’s Cave. St Fillan is the Patron Saint of the mentally ill, and sufferers were taken to the cave in the hope of cure. They were bound in the cave and left overnight alone to await miraculous intervention. If their bonds were loosened by morning, it was taken as a sign that they had been cured.
