Pocahontas Ceremonial Mounds - profile of platform mound
Profile of the flat-topped platform mound at Pocahontas. The image above the mound shows the results of a magnetic gradiometer survey that was conducted on top of Mound A by archaeologists from Mississippi State University. A magnetic gradiometer is a type of remote sensing instrument that is able to detect and map the locations of buried features, such as prehistoric houses. The arrow is pointing to the remains of a prehistoric house which once stood on top of the mound, and which was detected by the gradiometer.
