Cup marks tend come with diameters 4cm-8cm, but smaller ones do exist. Always difficult to tell from photos, but I wouldn't completely write this one off on the basis of size.

Thanks for that Rich32. I think the excavators were unsure but may have made up their minds now. I think it is less than 2cm across.

Looks like a cup-mark to me.
