Description
The Bedlington Market Cross (or obelisk), which is very different from the style of other market crosses in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders that I've seen (so far). The top obelisk looks much more modern than the pedestal, although the two are apparently of the same age.

Bedlington. Is that where those terriers come from - the ones that look like lambs or poodles?

Hi Sunny100, the nearby town flower tubs and signs proclaimed 'Bedlington Terriers' but didn't give any information. But yes, as I found out when I got home, these terriers did originate from this former mining town, apparently originally bred to exterminate rats and vermin from the mines. Now used for dog racing and other doggy-related sports. A friend of mine used to own one, and it was rather like a rough-haired sheep; very friendly.
