Description
Market Cross in Clackmannanshire Scotland. There is a plaque on the eastern wall of the Tolbooth which reads: “The shaft of the cross, engraved with the Bruce Arms, dates from the seventeenth century when Sir Henry Bruce was Sheriff. The ball finial is not original. The Steps were renewed in 1949. The lower part of the shaft has been worn by prisoner’s chains.” As well as the damage by chains, there looks to have been a relatively modern repair to the base of the shaft.
