Description
Castle Crag Hillfort
Castle Crag is the small pointed hill in the center of the valley.
The setting winter sun throws a shaft of sunlight through Honister pass into the valley. Magic!

Lovely Nicola. I wish I lived closer to the Lake District!

Yes, I was lucky. Right place, right time. I wondered to myself at the time how many other people noticed this light effect. I've never seen it before. Later in the put at Rosthwaite, I heard some walkers discussing this wonderful light; so there were other people who noticed this magic moment.
Imagine celebrating Yuel at the hillfort, and witnessing this unusual sunset. It must only happen around this time of year, when the setting sun is in the north east.
