Description
Place de la Concorde Obelisk
Taken from Egypt and placed in the center of Paris. It originaly stood in front of the temple of Luxor, where its twin remains. Similar to Cleopatra's needle in London, there are more captured obelisks of this kind in Central Park New York or Rome etc. It received a Gold cap on the Pyramidon tip for the year 2000.

Actually, this obelisk has not been taken by anyone, it has been given in 1831 by egyptian Bey Mehemet Ali to french king Charles X and raised in Paris in 1836 by king Louis-Philippe ! For once, Napoleon is not guilty...

Please correct my previous comment : of course, this gift was made long before 1830, as King Charles X abdicated after the 1830 Revolution. 1831 is for the arrival at Luksor of the specially built ship designed to bring back the obelisk in France, all around Africa ! Sorry for the mistake.
