Description
Tauragė left her name in History for having hosted a major (underestimated) historical event in December 1812 : the signature of the Convention of Taurage between the Prussian General Yorck and the Russian General Diebitsch, which accelerated the long-awaited downfall of the French dictator Napoleone Buonaparte. Two monuments recalls this event : this one at (55.2276, 22.2233) erected in December 2012, to replace a previous one erected in 1912, destroyed in 1944. See other photo for the second monument. Both photos : June 2015.
