Description
Tauragė left her name in History for having hosted a major (still underestimated) historical event in December 1812 : the signature of the Convention of Taurage between the Prussian General Yorck and the Russian General Diebitsch, which accelerated the long-awaited downfall of the French general Napoleone Buonaparte. Two monuments recalls this event : this one at (55.2280, 22.2197) erected in the years 1970's on the right bank of the river, the other on the crest in the background in 1912, destroyed in 1944, replaced in December 2012.
