Description
This tumulus stands at the top of what has been described as a 'ceremonial trackway' running between here and the nearby 'Gawsworth henge'.
The double 'track' is certainly curious but examination of the local geology strongly suggests its a natural fault line between two distinct bedrocks, the Bollin Mudstones and the Tarporley Siltstone Formation that runs N-S immediately west of the Leek Old Rd between it and the modern A532. The geology under the 'Gawsworth henge' has numerous folds that could easily result in curvilinear surface features, so I'm rather sceptical about that too.
