Description
Jupiter over December Double Ditch 1
The bright "star" is Jupiter. The cluster of stars above it is the Pleiades or seven sisters. The streak across the top of the frame is a satellite I believe. I used s small flashlight to "paint" the stone hut. The location is the abandoned Mandan Indian village now called Double Ditch. It was occupied in pre-Columbian times and for many years afterward. It is believed that the ravages of small pox or other diseases brought to the new world by Europeans killed so many inhabitants in this and other villages that the Mandan people abandoned several. (The stone hut dates from the CCC projects of the 1930"s.)
