Description
Fragmentary copy of the Kadesh peace treaty with the Egyptians.
Shortly thereafter, the Hittites succumbed to the Sea People and evacuated most of their empire to resettle in what is now northern Syria.

Amazing. Imagine what those missing pieces could tell. I suspect that the "Sea People" were nothing more than the Mycenaean peoples asserting their cultural dominance in that area at that time.

There's a copy of this in the foyer of the United Nations building in New York.
The Hittite empire didn't fall apart until about 100 years later (the Battle of Kadesh being around 1285 BCE) - something to do with the transition from the bronze age to the iron age maybe.
