Description
Wirksworth Standing Stone, Derbyshire GR: SK274542
This standing stone stands in a field close to the road to the west of Wirksworth.

Great to see that someone else thinks this standing stone is interesting. Check out the smaller stone 200-300 hundred yards down the slope to the east. Could they be connected? A further large standing stone, now gone, was recorded in the Dale Quarry.

Great picture, always fascinated by this stone and taken lots of pictures of it myself in the past, can't find out much history about it though, dont know if you have any info at all.

i used to live in wirksworth so i've seen this stone many a time before i had to move away but it just adds to the wounderful view

When were you in Wirksworth? My wife comes from there, and her father and grandfather set up the factory and factory shop up North End; her mother was very active in the Methodist Church there.
