Re: rochford, essex site venus [sarsen] stone by trui on Saturday, 03 December 2005

Thought you better know that the Rochford stone [Venus stone] is a SARSEN,
- NOT a puddingstone [made up of smaller pebbles in a quartz matrix]

It is considered, by geologists to have travelled from the Kent region, kin to Kits Coty, and the 'countless stones' perhaps. It was about 100 yrs ago a recorded footpath marker.
Regretably it seems i cannot do my own edit.

it's incorrectly labelled as a puddingstone on web pages,
PLEASE can you correct this accordingly as do not wish to THIS data to be misrepresented.

Also sent some images to file under 'Art', which includes some Ashridge Pudding-stones,
coordinate is TL994121 Hertfordshire. Nearest town Berkhampstead
but they could equally go under Glacial Eratics,
even though like others they were moved locally from elsewhere
[Humphrey Repton had a hand in design of Ashridge gardens]
however it was just easier at the time, to enter 'ART' with other submissions.
Understand these are modern fabrications - but presume art can go into the Gallery & on my own page to include follies/grottos/garden art arrangements - unless you deem not.

Sorry about the extra work
please let me know, will I have to submit again ?

thanks again
trui
