I've replied to all the Stone Lands book competition entries that didn't win. The question was "name a site in the Avebury complex".
As you know I am a fan of compiling Top 10 lists of favourite ancient sites so I couldn't resist giving the results of the 'winning' ancient sites, as follows.
The order and popularity may surprise you:
#1 West Kennet Long Barrow with an amazing 37% of the vote
#2 Silbury Hill on 22%
#3 The Sanctuary 10% (surprise!)
#4 The Cove 8%
#5 West Kennet Avenue 6% (where's the love )
#6 Avebury Stone Circle 5% (so obvious yet not)
#7 Windmill Hill 5% (for the enthusiasts)
#8 Lord and Lady stones / Adam and Eve stones (I think these are the same - the remains of Beckhampton Avenue?) 3%
#9 Avebury Henge 2% (again strange)
#10 Seven Barrows (I don't think these are a thing at Avebury) 1%
