It would be interesting to know which site it is. There are some magical sites around the UK that are or were beautifully arranged for the solstices or moon set or rise. So many sites also seem to have been disturbed, destroyed or moved often quite recently.
One of my favourite sites is a stone in mid wales (Fron newydd) that was moved to become a gatepost by the grandfather of the current farmer. The mid summer rise from the original site would have been really spectacular. Now sadly the change in orbit and move of the stone has spoilt it but we can see what it would have been.
