A rather overlooked gem, approachable from various routes with fantastic views particularly to the Bristol Channel.
The ramparts are most impressive when driving from the A38 to Shipham, depending on the time of year for from spring on much is obscured by vegetation.
The easiest approach is from Burrington
The direct route from Churchill is harder to climb but shorter.
I strongly suspect this functioned either as a stronghold or corral protection from raiders or perhaps as a convenient storage spot for trading. The lead /silver mines are relatively close and certainly pre dated the Roman occupation and the Bristol Channel would have been a handy spot for a bit of trading for metals pre and post Rome era, but that's just a guess to be honest.
At the very least this is an excellent place for dog walking and building up an appetite for a bit of lunch.
