Evidence shows this site was occupied for at least 3200 years. A Clovis fluted point fragment ca 10000BC has been found at Stave Lake reservoir not far away, which suggests possible concurrent hunter/gatherer presence in Stanley Park. Old Cordilleran Tradition sites, like that at nearby Fort Langley town site, have been dated to ca 9500 - 7500 years before present. Similar elevated knolls in Stanley Park may also contain archaeological evidence of occupation.

Recognized archaeological sites within the boundaries of the park include ancestral villages such as X̱wáýx̱way and Chaythoos, both located on Burrard Inlet, as well as un-named pre-Contact midden sites of unknown age at Brockton and Halleulujah Points which were occupied well into the late 19th century, as well as midden sites on the north shore of Lost Lagoon and at Ceperley Park.
