Between 1947 and 1951 I lived in a pre fab in Commonweath Way, Abbey Wood and just down the road in Federation Road was a chalk cave. We used to explore but being only young not too far. The land was owned by the Coop and is now a camp site and no doubt the cave is sealed.
I went to school in Purret Road, Plumstead, just down from Winns Common but what my query is could the chalk caves at Abbey Wood been dug in ancient times and does any one know if the cave off Stream Dale , Wickhame Lane ,named Turpins Cave on the opposite side of Bostall Woods to the cave at Frederick Road are connected?
Being an old man of eighty, with only memories, I would be interested.
Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
