Tribal officials, members & guests gathered at the Nanih Waiya Ceremonial Mound in Winston County on Thursday, August 9 to
commemorate the restoration of the revered Nanih Waiya Mound and Cave sites back into the possession of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
“For many centuries, the Nanih Waiya Mound has been a cherished symbol for our tribe. Generations of our people have visited
throughout the years to honor and respect the legacy of this mound,”
said Tribal Chief Phyliss J. Anderson.
“Today is about, for me, the importance of teaching and pass
ing along the stories of Nanih Waiya to the next generation.
