Re: Callanish: Navigation by Stone Circles? by Anonymous on Monday, 26 August 2019

I'm an American small boat ocean sailor, a follower of Gavin Menzies and a member of the UK Ocean Cruising Club. I believe you're on to something. The stone circles were used to calculate the lat/long position of the circles so that traders could find the places from sea. I also believe the Minoans likely helped create/modify the stone circles so they observed celestial bodies -not just the moon- and carried these observation on their boats. Each stone circle had a unique lat/long which were kept aboard their boats. Longitude computation is different for each latitude hence lots of stone circles. The ceremonial and funerary uses of the circles was done by "locals". They loved the circles because they were the key to bringing traders - Minoans- to their communities.
