Further information on Lord Stones Cairn Circle - RB3, RB4, Modern Stone Circle by johndhunter on Monday, 20 May 2019

RB3 – on the uploaded sketch is a round barrow at NZ 52408 03134, this is Historic England List Entry Number 1008854 which tells us that it is a well defined earth and stone mound standing 0.5m high. It is round in shape and is 10m in diameter. Also it tells us that on the top of the mound two large stones (actually there are three) lie exposed. These are covered in grooves and hollows, but these are considered to be the product of natural erosion rather than artificial carvings. Pastscape also has information on this barrow at Monument No.27479 and further tells us that the three recumbent boulders on top of the mound possibly formed a central cist now exposed.

RB4 – on the uploaded sketch is a round barrow at NZ 52148 03170, it is in a very prominent position with extensive all round views overlooking the Tees Plain. It is is Historic England List Entry Number 1008856 which tells us that it is a well defined earth and stone mound standing 1.2m high. It is round in shape and is 21m in diameter. Pastscape also has information on this barrow at Monument No.27482 though its measurements differ to Historic Englands in that it describes the barrow as being 18m in diameter and 1m high.

Modern Stone Circle – on the uploaded sketch map at NZ 52533 03268 is a very modern stone circle, built about 2013. It is more of a semi circle comprising of five stones. It has its own site page which can be viewed HERE

Hall Cliff Stone shown on the sketch map is a large boundary stone at NZ 52473 03234 and has its own site page which can be viewed HERE

Stone - The stone shown on the sketch map near RB1 & RB2 is now in a fenced off area with a young wood growing in front of it slowly obscuring it. Its grid reference will be about NZ 52403 03008. This large stone does not show up on old OS maps, consequently I am sceptical of its origins.
