We love the book The Old Stones. It is not only a very handy field guide, but also a great book to enjoy reading the descriptions of all the different sites. (Never knew Scotland has that many megalithic sites.) We used the guide it to visit a few sites in our area like Careg Samson (page 217).
Before we arrived in Pembrokshire, we stayed with friends in the Brecon Beacons. Here we passed a standing stone named Maen Llia. And of course we looked it up in your book and found it listed at page 228.
The guide is everything one may aspect from a guide: divided into regions, maps, top tens, precise locations in different methods (map, sheets, lat/long). All very handy to plan and visit the sites of your interest.
What makes the guide a real treasure, besides the many many really good documented sites, is the fact that there are so many little stories, interesting facts, quotations, etc. This really makes the guide a joy to read, also when we are not in the UK!
We are already looking forward to our next visit to the UK, because now we can very easily plan our trips using your guide to pick the most interesting sites.
Two questions:
- I am visiting your website more and more. Is there a way 'save' or 'like' locations, so I can have my own list of the locations I have visited (or want to visit)?
- Will you improve the Android app? Because it shuts down every time I open the maps in the app.
Andy, your book is making our vacations very much more enjoyable!
