On a narrow finger of land between Mavers Geo and South Haven are the remains of a promontory fort, three banks and ditches enclose an area of about 50 metres by 12 metres. Partially excavated 1996-7 in response to significant damage to archaeological deposits from coastal erosion along with the the burrowing of rabbits and puffins. The dating of particular archaeological deposits was a bit of a problem. A roundhouse within the fort contained pottery of the type or similar to what is often found at broch sites indicating a date of somewhere between 400BC-200AD. After the roundhouse went out of use a hearth was constructed in its remains, in the hearth were mould fragments for the casting of bronze (Iron Age). A couple of later rectangular structures were also found, one of which may have continued in use as a chapel to the 17th or 18th century.
