Re: The Great Stones of Landywood by Andy B on Saturday, 17 December 2016

A further update from Bleakly:
The picture (Google street view) is NOT of the Great Stones of Landywood.
The stone in the picture is/was known locally as the 'Devil's' Stone.
The Standing Stones were in the field on the opposite side of the road.

Below are the co-ordinates as copied from a map on the Library of Scotland website, thus -
http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=16&lat=52.6503&lon=-2.0200&layers=6&b=7&point=52.6434,-2.0031

SJ987057 / 398740 305782 / -2.0201 52.6498 / 52deg 38' 59"N 2deg 1' 12"W

The Position of the Stones is shown by the circle with radiating lines that is in the centre of the link to the map I sent.

Further, Here is a link
https://wyrleyblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/the-great-stones-of-landywood-from-great-wyrley-1051-1951.png

to a photograph that I have managed to find from The Story of Bloxwich by Homeshaw E J, in which I found the first mention of this stone circle when I was a child.

The stones were moved from their original spot by the farmer before the NCB carried out open-cast mining on the field where they stood.

I hope this may help to clear the confusion somewhat.
