As the city walls climb to the Acropolis from the Eastern end of the harbour I was astounded by the sheer size of some of the stones employed in its construction. More than a few in any other context would be termed megaliths, the majority of them making up the footings and first courses, but some doing both, rising 20 to 30ft. Cannot find anything re their history apart from the Athenians ordering their demolition after the siege of the 2nd Pelonopesian war. Astounding megaliths sited almost a mile up the mountainside in the original city wall still in situ.
ANYONE IN THASOS TOWN GET ME SOME PHOTOS PLS!
Would be most grateful.
